The ESLC difference

A clearly defined scope, before work begins

Every instruction starts with an agreed scope, so you know what assistance you are receiving and what it will cost.

  • What work has been agreed
  • What ESLC will deliver to you
  • What the fee will be
  • What happens next

ESLC provides defined pieces of work, not open-ended or ongoing representation. If your needs change, any additional work is discussed and approved separately.

Scope of instructionExample
Matter
Lease agreement for small business premises
Work agreed
Read the agreement, explain the main obligations in plain language and list the clauses to raise before signing.
Deliverable
A written summary and a list of questions, discussed in one follow-up call.
Fee
Quoted in writing and approved by you before work starts.
Outside scope
Negotiating on your behalf, or representation in any dispute.
Agreed in writing before work begins
How it works

Four steps, agreed with you at each stage

  1. Get in touch

Send a brief description of the assistance you need, by WhatsApp, phone, email or the enquiry form.

  2. We assess the instruction

ESLC considers whether the matter fits the consultancy scope and current availability.

  3. Scope, deliverables and fees are agreed

The work, what you will receive, the fee and the expected turnaround are agreed in writing before further work begins.

  4. The agreed work is completed

ESLC completes the accepted instruction and then explains any recommended next steps.

R500Initial consultation

Initial consultation

The initial consultation is a chance to discuss your matter and identify the assistance that may be needed.

Afterwards, ESLC sends you written confirmation of what was discussed, together with suggested next steps. Any further work is quoted separately and only goes ahead once you have approved it.

Questions

Common first questions

Do I need an attorney, or can a legal consultant help?

It depends on what you need. If you mainly need to understand a document, organise your information or work out your options and next steps, focused consultancy support may be enough. If you need someone to represent you, appear in court or perform work reserved for practising legal practitioners, you will need an attorney. ESLC can help you tell the difference and prepare for whichever route fits.

What does the initial consultation cost?

The initial consultation costs R500. Afterwards you receive written confirmation of what was discussed and suggested next steps. Further work is quoted separately and needs your approval first.

What does ESLC not do?

ESLC does not appear in court, act as your legal representative, or provide services reserved for practising attorneys. Through this website ESLC is not engaged as a practising attorneys’ firm.

Where is ESLC based?

ESLC serves clients in Langebaan, on the West Coast and in the wider Western Cape. Consultations are by appointment, Monday to Thursday, 08:00 to 12:00.

Not sure what kind of help you need?

You do not have to understand everything before asking for help. Start with a consultation, and leave with a clearer next step.
